Armed forces events

Armed Forces Day takes place every year on the last Saturday in June.

It is a chance to show your support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community: from currently serving personnel to Service families, veterans and cadets. It also marks the culmination of a week of celebrations, when the public show their support and appreciation for the Armed Forces community.

#SaluteOurForces is a simple way for anyone to pay tribute to the British Armed Forces community for their hard work, dedication and efforts to and keep us safe in the UK and across the globe.

To join in, simply post a photo or video of yourself or your friends and colleagues saluting with the hashtag #SaluteOurForces!

At Braintree District Council, we fly the Armed Forces Day flag and the Chairman hosts a reception for invited veterans and local school children. This year, Armed Forces Day is on Saturday 27 June 2026.

Reserves Day

Reservists give up their spare time to serve in the Reserve Forces, balancing their civilian life with a military career to ensure that should their country require them, they would be ready to serve. This year, Reservists Day will be on Wednesday 24 June 2026.
