Broadband in the Braintree District
Better broadband campaign
The Government wants the UK to have the best superfast broadband in Europe by 2015, so Braintree District Council is working with its partners to make sure our residents and businesses don't miss out on these opportunities.
As part of the Make the Connection campaign, we have been working extensively with Essex County Council to secure the upgrade of broadband provision throughout the District. The project aims to enable around 87% of premises in the county to access fibre broadband by the end of summer 2016, with all premises receiving 2mbps or more.
The Make the Connection campaign aims to encourage as many residents as possible to show their interest in faster broadband by visiting the Superfast Essex website. Thank you to all those who have already completed the survey - to date we have generated over 4,500 resident responses.
If residents are unable to access the internet in their homes to complete the survey, they can visit local libraries to use the computers for free. Library staff will be on hand to assist anyone that needs help.
Winner of Tablet computer competition announced
The lucky winner of the Braintree District Council broadband competition has been selected from more than 4,500 District residents who have helped build up an accurate picture of the local broadband needs. George Lloyd from Witham received £200 vouchers for the purchase of a tablet computer in November.
