Town’s magical window display
"Our local shops have told us that the window competition and trail has resulted in positive comments from customers and an increase in footfall which is wonderful to hear.”Published: Monday, 21st August 2017
Eleven shops in Braintree Town got very creative this summer having transformed their shop fronts in honour of Harry Potter, marking the start of the Braintree District Museum’s School of Witchcraft and Wizardry exhibition.
The public voted from Tuesday, July 25 until midnight on August 17 as part of a light-hearted competition on Braintree District Council’s Facebook and Instagram channels.
The winners were announced on Friday, August 18:
1st Place - Party Inspirations, Market Place
2nd Place - Mack's Barbershop, Braintree High Street
3rd Place - Patrick & Menzies Opticians, Braintree High Street
The first prize winner received a voucher kindly donated by the Bull in Market Place, Braintree. Each of the top three winners were presented with a certificate to display in their windows.
Councillor Tom Cunningham, Cabinet Member for Economic Development, at Braintree District Council, said: “Every one of the windows were absolutely stunning, the work that went into them shows how much talent and creativity there is in the town. We wanted to encourage excitement in the Museum’s summer exhibition while helping to raise the profile of our independent shops. The School of Witchcraft and Wizardry Exhibition at the museum is still on so if you haven’t had the opportunity to visit, I would certainly recommend it.”
Cllr Kevin Bowers, Deputy Cabinet Member for Economic Development, said: “The shop window competition brought some extra magic to the town centre and the Witchcraft and Wizardry theme has proved extremely popular. There is still time to take part in the Town Trail for the chance of some great prizes donated by businesses in the town. Our local shops have told us that the window competition and trail has resulted in positive comments from customers and an increase in footfall which is wonderful to hear.”
