Thousands save hundreds with Braintree’s Essex Energy Switch
Thousands save hundreds as Braintree’s Essex Energy Switch hailed a big successPublished: Monday, 26th October 2015
New figures have revealed that more than a thousand Braintree households who signed up to the District's energy switching campaign could see bills reduce by an average of £260.
The total number of people who registered for Braintree’s Essex Energy Switch was 1367 households making it the 2nd most signed-up-for switch in the UK.
Residents who registered their interest will now start to receive their personalised tariff offer and will have until Tuesday 24 November to decide whether they want to switch.
Cllr Robert Mitchell, Cabinet Member for Carbon and Energy Management, said: “This is a fantastic achievement which puts money back into the pockets of thousands of residents.
“On average the residents in our district could see a saving of £260 from this auction and I look forward to receiving my energy switch offer.
“We have had a large number of phone enquiries from the elderly, many having been on the same tariff for years, these were exactly the people who we wanted to reach as they are likely to see the greatest savings by switching.”
Braintree District Council asked residents to sign up to a mass energy switch to save money on their bills before winter. Residents had to register their interest, with no obligation to switch, by signing up before Monday 12th October 2015. A one-day auction took place on Tuesday 13th October 2015 with energy companies coming forward to offer their best possible tariffs.
The next energy switch auction will take place in February 2016 and registration opens from Tuesday 1st December 2015.
