Consultation into Town Centre improvements under way

RESIDENTS, Businesses and employees are being invited to have their say on a consultation into improvements for Witham Town Centre.

The plans, which form part of the Braintree District Council 'Backing our Towns' programme, have been developed following a retail study undertaken by town centre management experts GVA.

Cllr Lady Patricia Newton, Cabinet Member for Planning and Property at Braintree District Council, said: "The GVA study undertaken last year took a holistic view of how the Town Centre could be improved, assessing not only what the district council can influence but also the private sector investment needed.

"This is clearly a long term process, and we will be working closely with the Town Team and the business community who have an important role to play in this process. The consultation we are running at the moment focuses specifically on three key areas which have been highlighted as much needed in the town - creating a new market square, making a more shopper friendly link between the Grove and Newlands Centre, and improving signage."

Once complete the findings of the consultation will help guide the final details of the proposals with a view to completing the improvements in 2016.

A public exhibition of the proposals can also be found at Witham Library until the 23rd March.
