Braintree District Council has secured funding to deliver updated skate park facilities and landscape improvements.

Braintree District Council has secured funding to deliver updated skate park facilities and landscape improvements to sites in Braintree, Halstead and Witham, and is encouraging residents to share their views on what should be considered and included in the designs.

Funding has been secured for improvements to the open space at Ramsey Road Recreation Ground in Halstead, and the skate park facilities at Weaver’s Park in Braintree and Spa Road in Witham.

The skate parks in Braintree and Witham are coming to the end of their serviceable lives, and Braintree District Council would like to replace and update the equipment with new facilities. Residents are being invited to provide feedback on how the skate parks are currently used, together with their suggestions for improving the open spaces.

For Ramsey Road Halstead, Braintree District Council previously wrote to local residents asking for feedback. Based on the responses received, two options have been proposed for how the park could look going forward. Residents now have a further opportunity to add comments and suggestions around the layout and facilities. Ramsey Road improvements were secured by the Council as part of a Section 106 planning agreement with a developer.

The feedback will then be used to create a brief that will go out to design companies to provide concept designs. Residents interested in being involved in the design process can provide their contact details as part of the consultation form.

Cllr Wendy Schmitt, Cabinet Member for Climate Change and The Environment, at Braintree District Council, said: “We are always striving to improve and develop outdoor recreation opportunities for residents, so we are pleased we have been able to secure funding to do just that in our three towns. I’d encourage as many residents as possible to share their views as the projects enter the design phase.”

Cllr Gabrielle Spray, Cabinet Member for Planning and Infrastructure, at Braintree District Council, said: “We want to create the most suitable facilities possible for the community that are modern, fun and safe to use. Please do use this opportunity to influence the designs and tell us what type of facilities you would benefit from in your local area.”

Details of the schemes and how residents can provide their feedback can be found online at www.braintree.gov.uk/skateparkconsultations

To provide the public with the opportunity to ask questions about the project, the council is hosting a face-to-face drop-in session at each location.

The project team will be available in-person on Saturday 22nd October at:

  • Ramsey Road Recreation Ground: 9:30am-11:00am
  • Weaver’s Park, Braintree: 12:30pm-2:30pm
  • Spa Road, Witham: 3:30pm-5pm

If residents would like further details regarding the consultations, they can email skateparks@braintree.gov.uk

Residents who do not have access to the internet can call the Council’s Customer Service Centre on 01376 552525. Paper copies of the consultation forms are available on request.

The consultations will close at 5pm on Monday 14 November 2022.
