Dominic Collins, Corporate Director for Economic Growth, and a member of his team recently visited Dlala Studios in Witham.

Dlala is an independent, award-winning, games studio which has worked with some of the largest companies in the world such as Microsoft, Nintendo and Disney.

Dlala Studios develops games and its innovative approach has seen it at the very forefront in this very competitive industry. Founder Aj Grand-Scrutton started the business more than 10 years ago from his parents’ garage and now employs more than 30 staff. Most recently the company have been working with Disney, developing a new game featuring the “Fab Four”, Mickey, Minnie, Donald and Goofy. The project includes redesigning the characters, putting Dlala’s team as one of only a few people to ever have the honour.

The Economic Development Team at Braintree District Council were able to offer business growth support to Dlala Studios, by means of exploring grant opportunities and to introduce the business to the Education and Skills Board, a working group of local businesses and education providers who aim to encourage skills and qualifications development across the district.

Aj says “We are very keen to support skill development within the sector. With this in mind we regularly take on apprentices and work experience students to allow them an insight into the industry, and we actively try to find ways to onboard passionate individuals who may not align with traditional education paths.”

Dominic Collins, Corporate Director for Economic Growth, says “Dlala Studios is an excellent example of how local businesses can give back to the community to inspire those looking to gain digital skills. Braintree District Council is looking forward to working with Dlala Studios to achieve shared goals.”
