Braintree District Council's statement on the future of Gosfield Community Shop.
We absolutely appreciate the value of the Gosfield Community Shop to the community and recognise that it is run through the hard work of local volunteers since it opened.
There is planning permission in place for a permanent home for the shop and a period of grace was given to allow the shop to continue to operate at its temporary location whilst it was hoped the new permanent home for the shop would be built.
We recognise that the shop has been trying to fundraise to establish the new premises but this has been hampered by the COVID-19 pandemic.
We have and will continue to offer the community advice. We’ve made contact with the parish council and are happy to have further contact with them and local representatives to support the continuation of this much valued community asset.
