Local residents are being asked to give their views on proposed changes to two conservation areas in Braintree.

Braintree District Council is undertaking a review of the Conservation Area Character Appraisal and Management Plan Consultation (CACAMP) for Bradford Street and Braintree town centre conservation areas, which is required through planning legislation and will inform future development and design in both area's in terms of their historic environment and unique character.

The proposals include changes to both boundaries which are necessary to reflect the current land use and historic character of the area.

Cllr Gabrielle Spray, Cabinet Member for Planning and Infrastructure at Braintree District Council, said: "Our conservation areas play an important role in maintaining and enhancing the heritage and character of our towns. A lot has changed since we last reviewed them, and given the significance of these areas, we hope residents will take the time to look at the proposals and give their views so we can fully take into account local opinions.”

Residents can find out more and make comment on both proposals via the Council’s website: www.braintree.gov.uk/BradfordStCAA for Bradford Street and www.braintree.gov.uk/BraintreeCAA for Braintree Town Centre.

Residents will also be able to find out more and ask questions about the proposals at a virtual webinar hosted by the Council on Wednesday 19th January 2022 between 7pm and 8pm. Anyone who would like to attend the webinar can register online at www.braintree.gov.uk/PVE

For those without access to the internet, they can view the documents at Braintree District Council’s offices at Causeway House or visit Braintree Library during their opening hours*.

The consultation will open now and will be running until 5pm on Monday 7th February 2022.

All responses will be taken into consideration to create a final version of the Bradford Street and Braintree Town Centre Conservation Area Character Appraisals and Management Plans, which will be considered at a meeting of Planning Committee later on this year before it is adopted.
