Another step closer for The Salings Neighbourhood Plan

A Neighbourhood Plan for The Salings has taken its next steps towards adoption following a positive Neighbourhood Planning Referendum on Thursday, September 16.

Eighty-five per cent of those who voted in the referendum were in favour of Braintree District Council using the Neighbourhood Plan for the Salings to help decide future planning applications.

The plan was produced by The Salings Parish Council working with Braintree District Council. The plan was subject to public consultations in 2019 and 2020 and was reviewed by an independent examiner in 2021.

In order to be adopted, the plan had to gain the support of more than 50 per cent of those voting in the referendum.

The plan will now go to a meeting of Braintree District Council’s Full Council in October for formal approval before it can be officially adopted.

Cllr Gabrielle Spray, Cabinet Member for Planning and Infrastructure at Braintree District Council, said: "Getting a neighbourhood plan to this stage is a huge achievement; it requires a lot of work and real commitment. I congratulate The Salings group who have worked hard to successfully produce this plan. I look forward to presenting it to Full Council in October."

The full referendum result can be found here. More information about the Saling's plan can be found here.

The district has four neighbourhood plans in place; Coggeshall, Bradwell with Pattiswick, Cressing and Hatfield Peverel. There are eight other neighbourhood plans going through the process.
