Unique opportunity for businesses on Springwood Industrial Estate
Businesses and employees based on the Springwood Industrial Estate will be able to apply for a free monthly subscription to the Spin+ electric scooters which are currently being trialled in Braintree, operated by Spin, Ford Motor Company’s micromobility division.
There are ten monthly e-scooter subscriptions available, funded by Braintree District Council and Spin, to allow businesses and individuals working on the estate to try out this green alternative method of transport and help reduce congestion in the area.
The monthly subscriptions will be funded for two months and will be offered on a first come, first serve basis, so businesses on the Springwood Industrial Estate are urged to contact Braintree Economic Development team as soon as possible to make the most of the offer.
Spin+ allows residents to rent an e-scooter for £55 per month in Braintree and includes an e-scooter, insurance, helmet, charging cable and 24/7 customer support and maintenance. Users will have exclusive use of their own Spin e-scooter for the duration of the subscription. It will not be shared with anyone else.
Approved by the Department for Transport, Essex County Council is working with Spin, Braintree District Council and Essex Police in leading on the e-scooter trials as part of its Safer, Greener, Healthier transport campaign that are part of the UK's nationwide e-scooter trials.
Private e-scooters are currently still illegal on public roads in the UK.
Councillor Tom Cunningham, Cabinet Member for Economic Growth, said: “We hope our local businesses based on the Springwood Industrial Estate use this great opportunity to trial e-scooters for free. For those that live locally, this provides a solution for a quicker, cleaner, greener commute to work as well as transport into the town centre to run small errands and reduce congestion.”
Steve Pyer, UK Country Manager at Spin, said: “E-scooters are a simple and fun way to get around especially for short journeys that would be otherwise done by driving a car, therefore reducing congestion and better for the environment. Riders are able to connect to and from three train stations in the service area, Braintree, Braintree Freeport and Cressing. The Spin e-scooters are also a great way for socially-distanced journeys to those who live or work around here.”

Both the rider and account holder will be liable for £300 fine and 6 points on their driving licence. Account holders should not at all times let their family or friends ride by using their account to protect everyone's safety
