Business and Apprenticeships

Benefits of Apprenticeships to your business

Have you ever thought about what an apprentice can bring to you and your business? In 2015/16, businesses in Braintree recruited 1,340 apprentices in their workplace - what’s stopping you from doing the same?

An apprentice gives you the opportunity to Find, Keep and Grow your workforce as well as introducing a fresh perspective to your business. They can be for people of all ages who want to earn while they learn, gain real work experience and develop their skills, either a new employee or an existing one.

It’s a job which comes with substantial training and development opportunities. Your apprentice will work towards a recognised framework (qualification) or standard, which is directly relevant to the job they do.  Most of the training is in the workplace with a mentor where they will learn job specific skills. Off-the-job training will depend on the occupational area, the training provider and the requirements of you the employer.

The value an apprentice can bring

Apprentices bring enthusiasm and a new perspective, so it’s no surprise that 89% of employers say they make their business more productive. They also bring the opportunity to develop a motivated, skilled and qualified workforce while encouraging, developing and engaging our leaders of the future.

Apprenticeship Levy

The new apprenticeship levy has now come into place which will give businesses more control over where, and how, money is spent on apprenticeships. We have prepared an Employers Guide to help you understand more about these changes to funding new apprenticeships.
