Braintree District Council

The heart of rural Essex 

Braintree district lies at the heart of rural Essex, spanning some 236 sq miles (612 km2) between the key regional centres of Cambridge , Colchester and Chelmsford.

This is the second largest district, by area, in Essex and has the fourth highest population at over 147,100 people.  The number of residents divides almost equally between those living in rural areas and those living in the main towns of Braintree, Halstead and Witham.

The district comprises of 30 wards, represented by 60 councillors who are responsible for making decisions on behalf of residents about local services and budgets.
