The Government has announced an Energy Bill Rebate for households in England from April 2022 to help with rising energy costs. This includes a one-off payment of £150 to most households in Council Tax bands A-D, excluding empty or second homes.
We have today (Monday 9 May) paid another 1,611 customers who have been paying their Council Tax by Direct Debit. This will be in customers bank accounts on Wednesday 11 May (this is due to banking processing times). This will be displayed as a £150.00 credit on your bank statement ‘Braintree DC Payments’ We have now paid a total of 35,451 customers.
If you believe you haven't received your rebate by Wednesday 11 May and you have been paying your Council Tax by Direct Debit, call our Revenues team on 01376 557755.
Residents who do not pay by Direct Debit will be able to access our online form very soon. Letters will start being issued this week inviting customers to apply for their energy rebate online. You cannot apply online until you receive your letter through the post.
We have over 50,000 payments to make as part of this council tax rebate so please do bear with us as it may take some time to process them all.
The rebate will not need to be repaid.

There is also discretionary funding available that will be for households not eligible for the main scheme. Once we have an approved scheme in place for this, we will update you.
