The standard certificate
The standard certificate takes approximately 3 hours and 20 minutes to complete. This includes a multiple choice test. The driving aspect of the test takes an hour to complete. This means the test lasts for a total of 4 hours and 20 minutes.
The certificate costs £100 per person to take.
We are flexible and will work with you to find a suitable date for the training. You can contact us to discuss your requirements or for any queries.
We have two experienced Driver Assessor Trainers who are Braintree District Council employees. To offer you the highest level of training we work with no more than two people at a time. The training takes place in Braintree in one of our in-house accessible vehicles. This is a 12 seater converted Renault Master.
You must pay in full when you have agreed a training date.
Practical driving assessment
This practical driving assessment is a 70 minute on-the-road session. This includes a driving assessment to assess your practical driving skills. The assessor will identify any issues with your driving and encourage you to improve your driving skills.
This includes:
- a demonstration drive. This will show you the standard for driving for “safety and economy”
- the opportunity to familiarise yourself with the vehicle
- an assessment of your driving skills and competence
Classroom session
This includes:
- developing your skills required to drive a minibus
- learning about the legal responsibilities of a minibus driver and duty of care
- learning about the Department for Transport. This includes their codes of practice in safe carriage of passengers
- learning about good practice in passenger comfort
- learning about health and safety at work for drivers
- learning how to manoeuvre minibus vehicles
- developing defensive driving techniques
At the end of this session you will sit a written test paper consisting of 20 questions. The answers are in the training session. You must answer at least 16 questions correctly; the test can be re-sat once if necessary.
Issuing your certificate
When you complete the course, we will present you with the MiDas certificate. This certificate is valid for 4 years.
