Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Test and trace self-isolation payment

Fully vaccinated adults/Children under 18 and 6 months.

As of 16 August 2021, fully vaccinated adults and children under 18 years and 6 months will no longer need to isolate if they have come into close contact with someone who has Covid 19. They will not be eligible for a Test and Trace Support Payment.

Parents and Guardians

The number of Parents and Guardians applying for the scheme should reduce, due to under 18's no longer needing to isolate. But, there may still be a few applications for those with Education and Health Care plans in place.

Claiming for taking time off work to care for child who has tested positive

If a child tests positive (under the age of 15, or under 25 with an EHC plan) the parent should be added as a close contact of the child. They will be given their own CTAS number which they should use to claim.

If the parent or guardian is fully vaccinated on the eligibility checker, they should still be given a payment if they meet the rest of the criteria. This is because they will need to stay at home to look after the child or young person. Local Authorities should request the child’s CTAS number as evidence.

If you are asked to self-isolate, you must stay at home.

You may be eligible for a Test & Trace Support Payment of £500 if:

  • you have been told to self-isolate because of coronavirus (COVID-19) and you cannot work from home
  • you’re the parent or guardian of a child who has been told to self-isolate and you need to take time off to look after them

There are two schemes.

If you are on a qualifying benefit you may be eligible for the national scheme.

If you are not on a qualifying benefit you may be eligible for the local discretionary scheme.

Read on to see who is not eligible and what information we need from you if you apply.

You can apply up to 42 days after the first day of self-isolation.
