well it's nearly time to head for the streets because Ping!, the national street table tennis festival, is heading our way!
Chelmsford is just one of a handful of locations that have once again been selected to be part of Ping! This national initiative will see 23 free-to-use table tennis tables, an increase of ten on last year’s event, installed at popular locations around the City of Chelmsford.
The seventh annual Ping! festival will boast a record breaking number of tables, bats and balls bouncing into an unprecedented 21 English towns and cities, bringing with them the wonderful community spirit which always plays a vital part of the festival.
This initiative will officially launch in Chelmsford on Sunday 3 July and the semi-permanent tables will be placed in various locations around the city for up to 10 weeks. Funded by Sport England and run in partnership with Table Tennis England, the purpose of Ping! is to get as many people as possible playing Table Tennis, bringing about a sense of community and helping them connect to the city and its green spaces.
Chelmsford City Council’s Cabinet Member for Leisure, Councillor Julia Jeapes, said: “The tables were incredibly well-received last year so I am pleased they will once again be available for everybody to use and enjoy for free. To join the fun, all people will have to do is simply pick up a bat and ball from the side of the table and start playing – it’s as easy as that!”
The tables are absolutely free to use, all you need to do is grab a bat from the side of the table and play! For more information on Ping!, please visit: www.chelmsford.gov.uk/ping, call 01245 606978 or email: email@example.com
