What is the Gateway to Homechoice scheme
The Gateway to Homechoice scheme was set up to provide a better system for allocating council and housing association properties for rent. The system has been in place across Babergh, Braintree, Colchester, Ipswich, Maldon, Mid Suffolk and Suffolk Coastal since 2009. Waveney District Council joined the scheme in early 2011.
The scheme has been designed to make the allocation of social housing more transparent and offer greater choice to applicants. If you are looking for social housing in one of the areas stated above there is only one application form to complete. To register for choice based lettings please use the link in the useful links section on the right hand side.
We aim to process new applications to the housing register within 28 days. Updates to expected application processing times are available on the Gateway to Homechoice website (link in the box on the right hand side).
We constantly monitor the results of the Gateway to Homechoice scheme. Each year we publish a report that sets out information about the results of the scheme. The Annual Report for 2013/14 can be downloaded from the ‘useful links’ section on the right of this page.
Changes to Allocation Policy as from 1st November 2012
The Allocation Policy has been reviewed and the new policy will become effective on 1st November 2012. Some applicants will be immediately affected by the changes that have been made. These are detailed in a document available under the Related Downloads link at the bottom of page.
