Recycle your Christmas tree

If you are looking to recycle your real Christmas tree following the festive period, there are many ways to do this. We will be collecting them from 10 locations across the district on Saturday 13 January 2024.

We will collect real trees and wreaths, however you must remove all decorations before recycling the tree.

We cannot take artificial trees or wreaths containing wire and trees must not be taller than 6’7”.

Farleigh Hospice

We are thrilled to support Farleigh Hospice again this year with their tree collection.

The event takes place over the weekend of 5, 6 and 7 January 2024 and is open to anyone in mid Essex with a real Christmas tree who wishes to have it collected for recycling.

The scheme raises valuable funds to enable Farleigh to care for local residents affected by life limiting illness or bereavement.

Register your interest by 4pm on the 3 January and it will be collected directly by the ‘Farleigh Elves’!

Composting

You can compost your Christmas tree at home by breaking it down into smaller pieces and putting it in your home compost bin.

Green wheeled bin

If you subscribe to the garden waste collection scheme, you can cut up and dispose of your tree in your green bin.  We will empty this bin when the collection resumes from March 2024. You must make sure your tree fits in the bin with the lid shut.
