Who is responsible for repairing streetlights within the Braintree District?

Streetlights in the main roads are generally owned by Essex County Council Highways department Tel: 01206 573353.

Lights on Council Estates are often the responsibility of Braintree District Council.

Some lights are in the ownership of the local Parish Councils.

Streetlights in roads on newer housing developments are often the maintenance responsibility of the Developer.

How to report a problem with a streetlight?.

Note the number code on the lamp column and the address of the nearest house to it.

If you know who owns the light, phone them directly.

Otherwise pass the information to our Customer Service Centre on 01376-552525 or via Email to - - csc@braintree.gov.uk who will forward it to the right owner for you.

Be ready to give your own name and contact number. This will assist the repairers if they cannot identify the faulty light during the daytime.
