Regulation of Drivers of Taxis and Licensed Vehicles *

Drivers

Drivers' licences are only issued by the District Council after the driver has been checked to ensure that he/she:-

Has a valid driving licence,
Is a fit and proper person,
Understands the relevant laws.


 Medical and criminal checks are carried out by the District Council when a driver is first licensed and periodically thereafter.

Licensed drivers must wear their identification card, which includes a photograph of the bearer.

Vehicles

Must be under 5 years old when first licensed.

Are tested every six months to higher standards than the normal MOT test. Must be kept in a clean and tidy condition. Are also subject to additional unscheduled inspections. Must display a Council license plate on the rear of the vehicle.
