In May 2008 the East of England
Regional Assembly (EERA) produced the 'East of England
Plan', which guides planning and transportation policy up to 2021
and provides the statutory framework for local authorities such as
Braintree to produce more detailed
local development plans for their areas. Also known as the
'Regional Spatial Strategy' (RSS), the Plan has a key role in
contributing to the development of the region, which covers the
counties of Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Hertfordshire,
Norfolk and Suffolk.
EERA is a voluntary association comprising all 54 county,
unitary and district/ borough councils in the region as well as a
wide cross-section of stakeholders.

Planning for Gypsies and Traveller Accommodation in the East of
England - Issues and Options Consultation
The
consultation document
"Planning for Gypsy and Traveller accommodation
in the East of England: Issues and Options" was published by
EERA on May 8th 2007. It was subject to a 12 week public
consultation, which ended on 31st July 2007. Following on
from this in October 2008, an examination in public (EIP) will
be held to test the soundness of the proposed policy for
additional pitch requirements. This will provide the
opportunity to have a structured discussion on issues
arising from the proposed policy on Gypsy and Traveller
accommodation.
