Planning for Sustainable Design and Construction *

The Planning for Sustainable Design and Construction Interim Guidance, approved by the District Development Committee of 30th November 2006, provides assistance to developers in addressing sustainability within planning applications. It supports the implementation of the key policies within the Local Plan Review that promote sustainble development in line with Government Planning Policy.

The Guidance sets out the standards that will be required to achieve a sustainable development. A sustainability checklist that highlights the issues to be addressed is to be completed and submitted with planning applications requiring a Design and Access Statement (excluding Design and Access Statements for Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas).

- Planning for Sustainable Design and Construction - Checklist (Word version)

The Council has subsequently decided not to produce an SPD on sustainable construction:  It was considered that the Council's Sustainable Design and Construction Guidance and Ckecklist and the adopted Urban Place Supplement provide sufficient guidance for developers, and the checklist provides sufficient information to enable assessment of submitted proposals.
