8. How long does the Planning Process take? *
For the majority of planning applications the local planning authority has eight weeks to make a decision.  (The local planning authority has thirteen weeks to determine applications for major residential or commercial development).

The local planning authority will always aim to deal with planning applications as speedily as possible.  As an authority we are assessed by the government on how quickly we can determine planning applications.  Our targets are to decide: -

- 60% of 'Major' applications for residential or commercial/industrial development within 13 weeks;

- 65% of 'Minor' applications for residential or commercial/industrial development within 8 weeks; and

- 80% of 'Other' applications for householder extensions, changes or use, listed building consent, conservation area consent or advertisement consent.

If you are interested in how Braintree District Council is performing against the government’s targets, our performance statistics are available online.
