This area of the website has been designed to assist our
customers when submitting planning applications to Braintree
District Council for consideration.
Braintree District Council’s preferred method for the submission
of planning applications is online, via the
Planning Portal.
Braintree District Council strongly encourages developers, planning
agents, architects and individuals to use the
Planning Portal and apply
online.
Alternatively, it is still possible to submit planning
applications in writing.
Application Forms along with associated Guidance Notes
are available on the website to download and to assist you in
completing the relevant application form. In addition, packs of
application forms are available at the Planning Desk within
main reception at Causeway House, during normal office hours.
Braintree District Council publishes a
Scale of Charges, which details what planning fee is
required for each type of application.
Prior to submitting a planning application, you should check to
make sure you need
Planning Permission for your proposal. If you do
need planning permission, there are a number of things that you can
do to help us to deal with your planning application more
efficiently:
- Discuss your proposals with us before you make your
application - You can contact the Duty
Planner; you can make an appointment to see a Senior
Planner at an Area Planning Surgery; or you
can submit your proposals to us in writing. Further
Planning Guidance and Advice is also available
online;
- Check the guidance notes supplied with application forms to
make certain we have all the right information;
- Let us have 5 sets of completed application forms and plans
with the appropriate fee. Sometimes when we have to consult a
lot of people, it will speed things up if we have extra sets of
plans. We will let you know if this is the case;
- Ensure that the plans you send us are in metric scale,
accurate and clear and show the relationship of the site to
adjacent properties;
- Quote the application reference number and/or the site address
when you contact us.
