Take a look at your town, village or surrounding countryside – what is it that makes you love where you live?  Can you take a photograph which will capture a beautiful image and inspire people to visit our district, to discover the ‘heart’ of rural Essex?

Three great prizes to win:

• A luxury night in the Essex Golf and Country Club in Earls Colne (bed and breakfast).

• Dinner for two at the White Hart in Great Yeldham.

• A family ticket (2 adults and 4 children) for the Colne Valley Railway in June 2010.

 

SUBJECT CATEGORIES

Photographs will be judged in three subject categories

• Scenes of towns and villages

• Rural scenes and landscapes

• A great day out/pastimes and activities


What sort of pictures?

We are looking for beautifully observed, well composed pictures – a good picture speaks a thousand words.  The winning pictures will be used to promote our district to visitors and tourists.

You can interpret the categories as imaginatively as you like.

Pictures must be of towns, villages, rural scenes, landscapes and local events within the Braintree District.


HOW TO ENTER

Email your photos to marketing@braintree.gov.uk or send your prints to Braintree District Council, Causeway House, Braintree, Essex. CM7 6HB

Enter pictures as digital jpegs which should be no smaller than 2 meg.

Include:
• Your name, address, telephone number and e-mail address.
• Your age if under 18.
• Name of the subject category entered.
• Caption for the picture and where the picture was taken.
• Declaration that you have read the terms and conditions.

Closing date of competition 12th February 2010.

Winners will be notified by 26th February 2010.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

If you are below the age of 18 you must obtain consent from your parent or guardian to enter the competition.

Photographs will be judged on artistic merit.

The competition is open to amateur photographers only.

The photographer must be the sole author and owner of the copyright of photos entered into the competition.  The copyright remains with the photographer, although by entering the competition you authorise Braintree District Council a non exclusive royalty free usage of your photo with credit to the photographer where ever possible.

All entries must clearly state the category entered, where the picture was taken, captioned explaining the photograph.  You must include your name, address, e-mail address and telephone number (only to be used if you win the competition).

Digital images should be submitted as jpegs to marketing@braintree.gov.uk.  Alternatively, photographic prints minimum size 7 x 5 inches should be submitted by post to: Marketing, Braintree District Council, Bocking End, Braintree, Essex. CM7 6HB. Pictures submitted by post will not be returned.

Photographs must have been taken by the person entering the competition.  Entrants are responsible for ensuring that images are taken with the permissions of the subject and do not infringe the copyright of any third party or any law.  Pictures of children (under the age of 16) must have written permission from their parents, which will be required if your picture wins.

Braintree District Council reserve the right to disqualify unsuitable images.

The judges decision is final.  No correspondence will be entered into.

Although we endeavour to provide quality prizes via sponsoring companies, Braintree District Council can not warrant the quality of their product or service.

Winners will be notified by 26th February 2010.
