What is a Caravan Site Licence
?
It is written permission from the Local Authority to station
caravan(s) intended for the purpose of human habitation on any
land. These can be residential or touring sites.
Why do I need a Licence ?
For the protection of public health and to ensure that
health
and safety requirements are met; for example ensuring that fire
precautions are adequate and that any shared facilities are
sufficient and accessible.
Do I need any other permissions ?
Yes. You will probably require planning permission and a
Licence cannot be issued until such permission is obtained.
Are there any exemptions ?
Yes. In respect of touring sites the Secretary of State has
the
authority to grant exemptions to certain organisations that
satisfy them that the site will be well managed and kept in good
sanitary condition e.g The Caravan Club of Great Britain. Also
there are certain other exemptions detailed in the legislation and
you should enquire for further details.
How do I apply for a Licence ?
You should contact the Public Health and Housing team ( see
below) of the Council who will arrange for the necessary forms to
be sent. There is no fee for this licence
Are Conditions Imposed ?
Yes. Conditions relating to density, sanitary provisions, and
if necessary such things as caravan spacing, roadways etc can be
imposed. These will be determined by an officer from this Council
who will inspect the site and discuss the conditions and
requirements with you. You must allow the officer free access to
the site and provide all required information.
How long does the Licence last ?
The licence will expire when the planning permission
expires.
