The Essex Lace Makers (E.L.M.) aim to encourage all types of lace making in an informal and friendly environment. Since its formation in 1977 the group has gone from strength to strength, and now holds many meetings and workshops throughout the year where lace enthusiasts can meet and share their skills.

E.L.M. activities include:

- Two annual Lace Days - one in May and one in October - which feature guest speakers and the presentation of the Jean Dudding Trophy for design.

- A Suppliers' Fair held in March each year, with over 40 suppliers in attendance.

- Several smaller lace days and specialist workshops throughout the year.

- Four newsletters a year, keeping members up-to-date with news, design ideas and upcoming events.

Annual membership fees are £4.50 for adults and £2.50 for juniors (under 18s).

Membership runs from April 1st to March 31st.
