East Anglian Stitched Textiles (EAST) was formed in 1995 in
response to a demand for a self-supporting framework for local
artists in the southern half of East Anglia, UK. The members come
from a range of backgrounds, but all have in common the commitment
to the continued development of textile work, its recognition and
its full participation in the established art scene.
EAST's membership began with ten artists, and has now grown
to fifteen. The group is mentored by Anthea Godfrey, Principal
Lecturer at the London College of Fashion and Chairman of the
Embroiderer's Guild.
What makes EAST's work special is their success in
combining a range of exciting techniques with thought provoking
themes. As a result an EAST exhibition evokes powerful
reactions from its audience.
