The distinguished natural historian John Ray (1628-1705) was
born in Black Notley, Essex, and produced a highly influential
legacy in the study of the natural world. At Braintree District
Museum visitors will find a gallery dedicated to Ray's life. The
Museum holds a small collection of material including his
three volume 'Historia Plantarum' (1685) and 'Wisdom of
God'.
