Leisure & Heritage

*

Braintree District is a region of colourful, bustling market towns and picturesque villages set in the beautiful rolling countryside of North Essex.  The District is steeped in history, from Roman settlements to the industrial successes within textiles and manufacturing; don't miss the fascinating story told at Braintree District Museum, The Warner Textile Archive and a variety of other museums and heritage centres in the District.

In Braintree District there is plenty to see and do, from the Freeport Shopping Village to medieval barns of the Knights Templar at Cressing Temple, jousting knights at the Norman Keep of Hedingham Castle to steam railways, magnificent houses with stunning gardens and listed windmills.  If you are after something more unusual, discover the specialist shops of Braintree, Coggeshall, Halstead and Witham.
