WORK EXPERIENCE *

How would work experience help me?
One way in which we can promote and increase employment in the District, is to provide work placements. You can experience working in a large organisation, develop existing skills, gain new skills, or experience what it's like working in a particular area that you'd like to have a career in, and would like to 'try it out' first of all.

All of this experience is invaluable and will strengthen your C.V. or Application Form for your future employment.

Each year, we receive approximately 150 requests to provide work experience placements to school students, college students or to individuals who contact us directly. Every effort is made to meet these requests, but there is no guarantee that all placements will be accommodated for.

Who can get a placement?
Anybody can request to work in the Council, but we will give priority to those who either live or go to school/college in the district, but don't let that dissuade you from approaching us - we've provided placements to Spanish students in the past!

What sort of a placement could I get?
Generally, the requests we get are mainly for administrative and clerical placements, but that's not prescriptive. We will try to find you a placement in any area of the Council that you have an interest in.

Is there a limit on the time I can spend in the work placement?
There is no time limit, although we generally get requests to provide placements for 2 weeks, but we will try accommodate your time limit.

Will I get paid?
No, we will not pay you, although departments may pay or contribute towards your travel expenses/subsistence at their discretion, and if they have the funds available to help you.

How do I go about getting a work placement?
If you are a school student, please contact your local Project Trident Office. Your school should be able to provide you with a contact name and number.

If you are a college student, there is usually somebody in the college who co-ordinates work placements so please contact them directly.

If you are not at school or do not go to college and would like a placement, please contact
