How did the Temporary Register come about?
About 8 years ago the Council was receiving enquiries from
people who wanted to work on a temporary basis, because either
they'd recently moved into the area, wanted a career change or had
been made redundant.
At the same time, our Managers were approaching the Personnel
Department and asking if they could recruit individuals for a
period of time, e.g. to cover maternity leave or long-term sick
leave, or perhaps they were reorganising their section but needed
to maintain the day-to-day running of the operation.
From Managers requests, the temporary positions were being
advertised, however the recruitment process was taking longer than
the Managers requirements! - thus the Temporary Register was
born.
How does it work?
The register runs along similar lines of a Recruitment Agency,
e.g. individuals apply to us to go on to the register and we in
turn, match-up peoples skills and experience to the Managers needs
and requirements.
How long does a temporary position last?
It all depends on Managers requirements, but generally, a
temporary position can last for 3 or 6 months.
How much will I get paid?
The temporary rate of pay starts from £5.63 per
hour, and is paid in arrears on a monthly basis.
