The aim of housing associations is to provide homes at
reasonable rents for people who cannot afford to buy a property on
the open market. A housing association
must be registered with the
Housing Corporation in order to be eligible for funding.
Housing associations are a good example of co-operation between
the public and private sectors because they make use of money from
both. The Housing Corporation, a government agency, channels public
funds towards housing associations and then carefully monitors the
homes developed and how they are managed.
