You do not have to put up with Domestic Violence or Abuse
Some of you may leave in a hurry due to your partner assaulting or
threatening you but if you have time, make a plan - it will help
you feel more in control.
-Save some money for bus, train, taxi fares
-Any medicine your children may need
- Make a list and keep it with you of telephone numbers you
may need in an emergency e.g. local
police/friends/relatives/women’s refuge
-Keep a spare set of keys to your home/car with the money and a set
of clothes for you and your children packed in a bag ready, should
you need to leave in a hurry
Some people have more time to prepare- so consider taking the
following:
-Take all your children with you
-All legal and financial papers, marriage & birth certificates,
court orders, national health cards, passports, driving licence,
child benefit books, address book, bank books, cheque books, and
credit cards
-Important personal possessions, which have sentimental value, like
photos, jewellery, & children's favourite toys
Give consideration to:-
Leaving when your partner is not around- it could be safer. If
you do forget or leave something behind, the Police will escort you
to your property so that you can collect it.
If your children are old enough to understand you may wish to
think about explaining the problems.
