Braintree District Council publishes a range of documents that
give information about our plans for housing in the
district.
The Housing Strategy 2001 onwards.
The 2003/4 update to our -
Housing Strategy (pdf file) is the second update to the
strategy first published in 2001.
Previous Housing Strategies were submitted to the Government and
were assessed on a 5-point scale ranging from 'well above average'
to 'well below average'. In 2003/4, Housing Strategies were
assessed by the Government Office to consider whether they reached
a 'fit for purpose' standard. They were only cleared for
publication once they were considered to satisfactorily deal with
the range of issues that affect local housing.
Sub Regional Strategy
Housing authorities in the Eastern Region are split up into
‘sub-regions’. These housing sub-regions comprise the area of a
number of district and borough councils that are judged to have
broadly similar housing issues. Braintree District Council is
part of the Greater Haven Gateway sub region that includes the
boroughs and districts of:
· Braintree
· Colchester
· Maldon
· Tendring
· Babergh
· Ipswich
· Mid Suffolk
and
· Suffolk

Housing Strategy Action Plan
The –
Action Plan (pdf file) explains how we intend to deal with
the priorities set by the Housing Strategy. It includes details of
which service is responsible for each priority, timescales for
actions and how we monitor our work.
The Action Plan is updated each year – the current version was
updated in summer 2005.
