Empty Homes

*

Homes can be empty for a number of reasons, for example if a property is inherited following the death of a family member or if a property is used as a second home.

Some empty properties can create issues for the surrounding environment.  Empty properties can encourage antisocial behaviour and can pose health and safety concerns especially if in a state of disrepair.   Some empty properties can also be unsightly and bring down the overall appearance of the surronding area.

We actively look to identify empty properties across the district and work with partner organisations and private landlords to bring them back into use.  This can help meet housing needs in the district and improve local communities.

If you would like to report an empty property please complete the relevant form in the top right hand box.

I have an empty property that I would like to let:

We work in partnership with Colne Housing Association to offer the Private Lease Scheme which involves leasing suitable properties to households in housing need.  This can prove a viable option for some owners who do not wish to manage a property themselves and who are willing to accept a reduced rental in return for a guaranteed rental for the period of the lease.

If you are interested in renting your empty property with the help of the council please complete the relevant form in the top right hand box.
