-Empty Homes Draft Strategy 2010-2014

Homes can be empty for a number of reasons, for example holiday homes or if they are used as student accommodation and therefore empty during holiday times.

However properties that are empty without a recognised reason can be a disadvantage to the surrounding environment.  Empty properties can harbour antisocial behaviour and are typically in disrepair therefore proving a health and safety issue.  Additionally they can make an area look unsightly which can discourage investment into the area.

We actively work to identify empty properties and bring them back into use.  This not only serves to meet the housing needs of local people and reduce homelessness, but it can also improve communities and reduce the occurrence of antisocial behaviour.

If you would like to report an empty property please complete the relevant form in the top right hand box.

I have an empty property that I would like to let:

We work in partnership with Colne Housing Association to offer the Private Lease Scheme which involves leasing suitable properties to households in housing need.  This can prove a viable option for some owners who do not wish to manage a property themselves and who are willing to accept a reduced rental in return for a guaranteed rental for the period of the lease.  For further information please see the Landlords guide by using the link below:

- Landlords Guide (under development)

Our Housing Advisory team can also help landlords find prospective tenants.

If you are interested in renting your empty property with the help of the council please complete the relevant form in the top right hand box.
