Street Scene-What we will do *
We will clean and maintain the streets and open spaces within our District to the standards specified in the Environmental Protection Act 1990, which places a duty upon the Council to ensure that public land is kept clear of litter and refuse so far as is practicable. The frequency of cleaning can vary depending on location.

We will keep our streets and open spaces substantially free from litter and detritus with the aim of achieving cleanliness performance of 87%.

Our three Town Centres will be cleaned daily and kept predominately free of litter.

Channel sweeping in all Parishes will be carried out four times a year.

Litter and dog Bins will be emptied daily and weekly depending on their location.

We will remove fly tipping usually within 24 hours of it being reported and maintain a target for 2005-2006 of 98% achievement.

We will remove graffiti usually within 5 working days of it being reported and in the case of offensive graffiti within two working days, in order to maintain our target of 75%. There is a charge if this is removed from private property.

We will contact Utility Companies to clean up graffiti on street furniture that they own.

We will remove fly posting as part of our zero tolerance approach to maintain our target of 75%.

We will visit and clean litter hot spots in our District every week.

We will regularly cut grassed areas in and around the District usually every 10 days to ensure they do not become overgrown.

We will remove all abandoned vehicles with no value within 4 days and all those of some value within 10 days.

Maintain car parking facilities around the District.

Continue to enforce dog fouling and dropping of litter by issuing fixed penalty notices.

All play areas will receive a weekly, monthly and annual inspection to maintain them in a safe condition for people to use.

We will manage the Council's Car Parks and on street no waiting restrictions across our District and our Parking Attendants will continue to report problems that need addressing e.g. fly posting, litter etc.

We will encourage our operational staff to be more pro-active by dealing with issues to save members of the public reporting them.

The introduction of Parish Rangers across the District at evenings and weekends to help minimise anti-social behaviour activities and to work with Parish Council and Residents in maintaining a safe, clean and pleasant environment.
