Preventative Measures to Beat the Bogus Caller

A high percentage of people that call at your door will be genuine, however, on occasions you may receive a visit from someone unannounced, and with the intention to deceive you, to obtain access to your home. These type of people are known as "Bogus Callers", with an aim to get into your home and steal money and/or valuables.

Preventative Measures;-

* Do not keep large quantities of money or valuables in your home.

* Before opening the door put the door chain or bar on first.

* Check their identification (Phone the organisation from which they claim they are from - many utility companies now have free phone numbers to check the identities of their workers).

* Keep your front and back doors locked even when at home.

* You should always be cautious and aware when someone you don't know calls at your door.

This is only a guideline and if you would like to acquire further information check out the Home Office web site www.crimereduction.homeoffice.gov.uk
