[Part Time]
Area: Terling and Black Notley
A former
engineer within the service industry, Tony is originally from
Ireland and used to dealing with unwelcome situations.
“I was a victim
of racism for three years – one of the reasons I became a Warden
was because I was fed up with the way things like that happen in
the community. I think people should respect other citizens.”
He has been able
to use his experience to help others and is enjoying the
face-to-face contact the role brings.
“I love being
outside and getting things done. I want to help people – I think
that’s quite important.”
He is also
passionate about keeping the environment neat and tidy
and has been amazed by some of the things he has found whilst
out and about.
"It's
really funny some of lengths people must go to dump things.
I've seen televisions, washing beds and even cannabis plants!"
Tony worked
as an engineer for 16 years but had to go behind the desk as a
planner/estimator after hurting his back in an accident. As well as
continuing his job in Thurrock he also became a Parish Ranger and
feels he and the other Wardens have achieved a lot since then.
“I have been impressed in the last year – we’ve come a long way. I
thoroughly enjoy the job and enjoy making an impact on people’s
lives in a good way. I think we've got the right ideas, the right
support and the right attitude and I hope we can continue to
create a better quality of life for the community.”
Tony is married
with two children and likes fishing, spending lots of time
with his family and photography. He also loves the history of
World War Two.
