[Part Time]
Area: Sible Hedingham West to Lamarsh East
A London fireman
for 25 years and former referee, Dave loves nothing more than being
out and about in the community.
“When I was a
fireman I was often based in the station – now I’m always out there
meeting people.”
In fact he is
becoming so well-known that sometimes he can’t even walk down the
road without being recognised.
“I’ve been walking
along the street and had people shout ‘Dave!’ and stop me to chat.
It’s great.”
Dave believes that
the Community Wardens have already made a difference simply by
being out and about, approachable and visible.
“I’ve been
surprised by how much people tell me.” By acting as a link between
the Police, Council and Community he can resolve issues that may
not have been raised before, such as cars parking on the yellow
lines outside schools. He has managed to combat this in certain
areas by waiting outside and standing in the road so they have to
drive further down to park.
The communication
link works both ways and he feels this is a key part of the
Community Warden service becoming a success.
“I tell the Police
things and they tell me things – we’re each others’ eyes and ears
and look after each other.”
Outside of work
Dave hasn't left his footballing days behind - he is still a
Secretary of the Essex Senior Football League and is responsible
for appointing referees for each game.
