On these pages you will find information on how we are working to create a cleaner and greener District and how you can report any problems to us.

The Council provides a number of services that have an important impact on the condition and appearance of our streets, roads, town centres and public open spaces.  Keeping our District clean and tidy and well maintained is one of the Council's key priorities.

Our commitment - we will clean and maintain the streets and open spaces within our District to the standards specified in the Environmental Protection Act 1990 which places a duty upon the Council to ensure that public land is kept clear of litter and refuse so far as is practicable.  The frequency of cleaning varies depending on location.  For more infomation on our service standards please click here.

The Council works in partnership with many organisations which also have a responsibility for some aspects of "Street Scene" such as highway maintenance, street lighting, weed killing.  We also work closely with community groups to help and encourage residents to keep their neighbourhoods clean through our Community Champions scheme.

How you can help keep our District clean & tidy

> Take your litter home!  Or if there's a litter bin nearby put your litter, chewing gum and cigarette butts in the bin.

> Clean up after your dog, take it home and put it in your refuse bin, making sure it's securely wrapped up first.  If there is a dog waste bin near where you walk your dog you can put it in the bin but make sure it's securely wrapped up first.

> Contact us to report fly-tipping, dog fouling graffiti, littering etc.  You can report problems like this on-line or call the Customer Service Centre on 01376 552525 or email csc@braintree.gov.uk.

> Put your bins away as soon as possible after they've been emptied so that they are not left out in the street.  Your clear sacks of recycling should be kept securely within the boundary of your property between collections so that they do not caused inadvertent littering.  For more information on your waste and recycling collection service please click here.
