All businesses have a responsibility to dispose of their waste
correctly and to ensure it is only passed to authorised registered
waste carrier for transportation and disposal. This is a
legal responsibility under section 34 of the Environmental
Protection Act 1990.
You can check whether the person or company is a registered waste
carrier by asking to see their Waste Carriers Licence or by visitng
the Environment Agency Website at
http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk/
All producers of business waste are required to produce, when
requested by an enforcement agency such as the council or the
Environment Agency, a valid Controlled Waste
Transfer. As a waste producer you must, by
law, have a current waste transfer note and expired
ones must be retained for 2 years.
Braintree District Council has a statutory duty to
collect refuse from domestic properties, but waste from a business
premises is not collected as part of business rates.
Businesses have to take out a separate contract for the removal of
their commercial waste and Braintree District Council is one of
many Registered Waste Carriers.
Braintree Council can supply various sized bins to meet the
needs of your business. Below is a sample of some of the
options available. All bin prices shown are for one
collection per week and cover the period April 2010 to the end
of March 2011.
Blue Sacks: Blue sacks can be purchased for
£1.50 each plus VAT or £360 plus VAT for a box of 240
sacks.
240 Litre 2-wheeled bin: Holds approx 2-3
sacks. Costs £200 plus VAT per year.
360 Litre 2-wheeled bin: Holds approx
4-5 sacks and costs £275 plus VAT per year.
770 Litre 4-wheeled eurobin: Holds approx
8-9 sacks and costs £440 plus VAT per year.
1100 Litre 4-wheeled eurobin: Holds approx
12-14 sacks and costs £595 plus VAT per year.
