Tetrapak: the name 'Tetrapak' is a trade/brand
name for a type of packaging made by a specific manufacturer.
The word tetrapak has since been adopted to cover the range of
other manufacturers' packaging/cartons, similar in style and
construction to the original tetrapak brand. Ready-made
custard juice, milk and soup cartons are typical examples of
non-branded tetrapak style of packaging.
The packaging is usually made up of a number of layers (known as
composite). Some have spouts or pouring devices incorporated
into the design, but only to make pouring easier. The
confusing bit is not all cartons have as many layers and therefore
some can be recycled, especially if they are all made of paper and
card. The only way to tell the difference is to pull the item
apart, however we do not expect public to dismantle every carton
before recycling it!
