Waste collection

Collection days have changed - for almost everyone!

Transport has the greatest impact on Braintree District Council's carbon footprint. Our Green Travel Plan is in place to cut our carbon emissions and help combat climate change. Thanks to specialist software we have been able to redesign all our refuse and recycling collection routes to make them really efficient - saving fuel and time, which in turn means greater value to the residents of Braintree.

The new routes have now been introduced and are settling down as the crews get used to them.  Many thanks to everyone for bearing with us while we've been working to deliver the new service.  If you are having any problems with the new collections please call the Customer Service Centre on 01376 552525.

Final roll-out of wheeled bins

We've now completed our final wheeled bin roll-out which means that around 97% of the District is on the wheeled bin scheme which has been so successful in increasing recycling rates and which now includes food waste recycling.

Unfortunately, due to a problem with the supply of the small 140 litre wheeled bins, we've had to deliver standard size bins instead. We're expecting fresh supplies of the small bins shortly so if you previously requested the small bins, we should be able to start swapping them over as soon as they arrive.

If you were due to move over to the wheeled bin scheme last Autumn but still haven't received your bins please call the Customer Service Centre on 01376 552525.

No more side waste

Most residents are already recycling everything they can which is fantastic and, as a result, have no side waste at all (extra waste that won't fit in the bin). But some households simply aren't recycling fully and so regularly have side waste which is not fair on the vast majority of our residents who have become passionate about recycling and waste minimisation.

The refuse crews together with the Recycling Team are doing a sterling job in identifying households having problems with recycling and those with individual problems requiring larger grey bins.

If you need advice on recycling and how to minimise your waste please call the Customer Service Centre on 01376 552525.
