Established in 1989 as a partnership project between Braintree District Council and Colchester Borough Council, the Project provides a countryside management service,.working with landowners, residents, schools,  and many other individuals and organisations within the Colne Valley,

The Project area runs from Great Yeldham down to Colchester, including the valley sides. It covers at least part of 19 parishes, a Special Landscape area in Braintree District and a Countryside Conservation Area in Colchester Borough.

Within the valley the Project has three main aims:

Maintain and enhance the landscape quality;

Conserve and enhance wildlife habitats;

Improve access opportunities.

To acheive this the Project provides advice, helps secure funding, works with volunteers and in partnership with a variety of organisations.

Follow the links on the menu (top left) for more information on biodiversity, landscape or walking.

Without the help of volunteers the Project could not hope to acheive as much as it does.

There are a number of voluntary groups that work on a regular basis within the valley and the Project works with them as required. The British Trust for Conservation Volunteers (BTCV) provide a great deal of assistance on a monthly basis

In addition regular activities are organised for individuals to take part in. If you would like to help, whether for exercise, experience or the chance to get out and make a difference, please get in touch. The more volunteers that help, the more we can acheive!
