Conservation Areas *

All trees in a Conservation Area are protected as part of the Conservation Area designation.

Anyone wishing to fell, lop, top or uproot a tree in a conservation area, must complete and return a Notice of Intent, to the Council at least six weeks before you hope to carry out the work.   A Protected trees cover sheet is also available for guidance.

A tree is defined as exceeding 75mm trunk diameter measured 1.5m above ground level. Works carried out to protected trees without consent, constitutes an offence which could lead to a fine.

Shrubs are not included in the Conservation Area designation.

Determination of a Notice of Intent follows a similar procedure to that of a  Tree Preservation Order and takes 6  weeks.  There is no charge for this service.
