Information about protection from rabies.
Rabies is a very serious disease that can even be life
threatening. It is transmitted to humans from the bodily fluids of
a rabid animal. If someone is bitten or scratched by an animal
suspected of having rabies, they must seek immediate medical
attention.
It is illegal to import any animal not having a valid vet
passport. It is also illegal to contain any animal suspected to
have been imported into the country illegally.
Rabies
The Trading Standards Department of the County Council has a
contingency plan, which would be brought into operation to control
any suspected outbreak of rabies. The District Council has no
direct responsibilities under the plan although assistance may be
requested if additional resources were needed to contain the
situation. A copy of the Rabies Contingency Plan is available from
the Health, Safety and Emergency Adviser.
