Green Bin Reminder

For households with separate food bins:  please remember that your green wheeled bin is for green garden waste only.  No plastic sacks or bags, cardboard, cat litter/dog mess, metal, glass, plastic, nappies, black sacks of rubbish or food waste.

Please note:  if you live in an area which has NOT been allocated separate food waste bins, you can still recycle your food waste by putting it in your green wheeled bin.

For more information click here or call the Customer Service Centre on 01376 552525 or email csc@braintree.gov.uk

Wheeled Bins

On the day of collection please make sure the correct bin and/or clear recycling sacks are put out at your collection point (normally the front boundary of your property) no later than 7am on the morning of collection but no earlier than the evening before.

Be aware of where you put your bin/clear sacks out on collection day so that they do not cause an obstruction.  Our collection crews are instructed to replace bins back to where they were collected from so please position your bins carefully.

Return your bin to the inside of your property boundary as soon as possible after collection.  Between collections your wheeled bins and clear sacks must be stored within the boundary of your property, for example, in your front or rear garden.

Excess waste?

Please do not put additional refuse or garden waste on top or by the side of your bin.  The Council has a No Side Waste policy which means that all non-recyclable refuse must be contained within the grey wheeled bin with the bin lid closed.  If you need advice on how to recycle and minimise your waste please call the Customer Service Centre on 01376 552525 or email csc@braintree.gov.uk.  If you think your household may qualify for a larger grey bin please ask for an application form or click here to fill in our on-line application form.

Assisted collection?

If you have problems moving your bins and there is no-one else in the household physically capable of putting your bins out for collection (for example, if you are elderly or have a medical/physical condition), we may be able to provide you with an assisted collection whereby the crews will collect the bin from where you are able to use it, empty it and return it to you.  Please call the Customer Service Centre on 01376 552525 or email csc@braintree.gov.uk for an application form or click here to fill in our on-line application form.

Missed collection?

Do you think the crews may have missed your bin/clear sacks today? Please click here to see our check-list before you report a missed collection.

Households on fortnightly black sack collections

There is a very small number of households unable to have the wheeled bins (generally terraced houses that front directly onto the pavement or highway and which have no rear access at all).  If this applies to you, you will continue to receive an annual supply of black sacks for your refuse which you should put out at the front of your property on "grey bin" days.  Your clear recycling sacks should be put out on "green bin" days.

Flats

Blocks of flats normally have a bin store or a number of bin stores depending on the number of flats, usually situated in the car park area.  Some are for the storage of black sacks and some have bulk bins installed which the Management Company has supplied for the containment of refuse within the bin store.  If this applies to you, please ensure your black sacks are placed within the bin store or within the bulk bins if bins have been supplied.  The bin stores/bulk bins are emptied on a regular basis by our bulk bin vehicles.

Your clear sacks of recycling should be put out at the front boundary of the property (near the roadside) by 7am on the day of collection but no earlier than the evening before - your clear sack collection days are shown by a green circle on the collection calendar.  Unless there is a special bin store for recycling only, you will need to store your recycling in your flat between collections.  Some blocks of flats have allocated one of the bin stores for recycling only.  If this applies to you, please put your clear sacks of recycling in the correct bin store or place your recycling in the appropriate recycling bin.  The recycling bins are emptied on a regular basis by our recycling bank vehicles.

Adverse weather conditions

The collection crews work hard in all weathers to try and complete their collection routes and it may take a little longer for them to reach you.  During severe weather conditions, please continue to put your bin and/or clear sacks out on your scheduled collection day by 7am and the crews will collect as soon as possible.  If your bin and/or clear sacks have not been collected by the end of the day, please leave them out as the crews will be working to catch up as soon as the conditions improve.

If bad weather hits us, updates will be posted on these pages as necessary.
