GREENER SILVER END GROUP

Enhancing Green Space in Silver End

Questionnaire

What is this questionnaire and why is it important? Over the summer, the Greener Silver End group has identified green spaces in Silver End that could be enhanced and has developed three that would improve the village the most and are feasible to be planted during this winter / spring.

The Greener Silver End Group has set up the questionnaire because we want the village to learn about our proposals and give an opportunity for local people to have a say - with the aim of making the plans the best that they can be.

Haven’t heard of the Greener Silver End Group? The Greener Silver End Group was formed about a year ago by people who live in Silver End as a response to some of the findings of the Parish Plan survey. The survey showed many things about the village, including that local people have strong feelings about two environmental issues -

1)Protecting Silver End’s ‘Modern Garden Village’ legacy

2) Making homes more energy efficient – especially in the conservation area where the old metal frame windows make for cold houses and high fuel bills.

The Greener Silver End Group aim to tackle both issues, this questionnaire focuses on the first issue; we want to create and enhance community green spaces to help keep the village a special place to live.

The group has the support of local government – Silver End Parish Council and Braintree District Council as well as from the Rural Community Council of Essex

Want to do something for your village? Why not join the Greener Silver End group and help increase the Village’s energy efficiency and protect its ‘Modern Garden Village’ heritage. The group is friendly and meets once a month at the village hall and would like to hear from you. Call Dave Backwith, Chair of the group, on 583477, or send him an email; d.backwith@btinternet.com

Greener Silver End are also looking to improve  energy efficiency in the village and want to get a Carbon Footprint of the village.  This would give us a better idea of how much energy we use and the information could us find ways of improving energy efficiency.  With rising fuel bills this obviously makes sense financially too. You can help by starting your own Carbon Footprint on our website at: www.greencommunitiescc.org.uk/group/silverend
